Just released: ARO™ Orbit PRO for 58mm Portafilters: We've taken our best-selling ARO Orbit™ to the next level! Now featuring durable aluminum construction, precision ball bearings, and an ultra-smooth mechanism. Built tough for dedicated home baristas and demanding commercial cafes! Purchase here!
Introducing the ARO Orbit™, a premium spirographic espresso distribution tool. We've optimized every aspect of this tool — from meticulously engineered gear ratios and pin placements to a mechanism that spins with the ease of a finger. Elevate your espresso with unmatched consistency in every pull. Perfectly fluffed and distributed baskets of espresso are just a few spins away.
Here's a quick geometry lesson: Hypotrochoids and epitrochoids are curves defined by tracing a point attached to a circle that's rolling along the inside or outside of a fixed circle, respectively. Spirographs use this concept to create dazzling geometric patterns. The ARO Orbit™ utilizes this mechanical motion to efficiently distribute and fluff the grounds, ensuring consistency no matter how early in the morning it is.
Magnetic vs. Non-Magnetic Sleeve
Choose between a magnetic sleeve for a secure, one-handed operation or the standard non-magnetic sleeve with precise, tabbed cutouts.
- Magnetic Sleeve: This premium sleeve is equipped with three powerful neodymium magnets, ensuring a firm grip on most* portafilter baskets. It auto-aligns itself and allows for effortless one-handed use, making it the recommended option for magnetic portafilter baskets.
- Non-Magnetic Sleeve: Features tabbed cutouts designed to fit around the ears of your portafilter to retain the tool and ensure it remains aligned and secure while spinning. This option generally requires two-handed use — one hand to help secure the Orbit, and the other to rotate the tool.
*Please ensure your portafilter basket attracts magnets before purchasing.
Key Features
-
Novel and Innovative Gear Design: Features three separate gears working in harmony for optimal mixing, distribution, and fluffing in as little as four spins.
- The Sweeper: This extended-armed gear whips the pins at high velocities slicing through any clumps in its path.
- The Scrambler: This short-armed gear bounces the pins back and forth across the basket to scramble and mix the grounds, ensuring even distribution and a level bed.
- The Edge Dancer: This small gear pushes and pulls grounds near the edge for complete basket coverage.
-
Precision Pins: Utilizes 10x, 0.25mm diameter pins to trace dozens of hypotrochoids and epitrochoids, distributing and fluffing espresso grounds in your portafilter basket.
-
Efficient Distribution: Spirographic mechanical motion ensures consistency and fluffs grounds in seconds, providing a uniform and level espresso bed.
- Adjustable Needle Length: Features the ability to adjust the needle length for a custom fit with virtually any portafilter basket depth.
- Unique Finishes: Available in four distinct finishes (textured, carbon fiber, geometric, galaxy) to personalize and enhance your espresso station.
Set-Up and Use
- Install 10 pins by inserting them into the holes in the gears. If a pin hole is hard to reach, try rotating the tool a bit so that the gears move into a new position. You can also remove the adjustment sleeve to get better access to the pin holes. The deeper you insert the pins, the tighter they will grab. Be careful here and take your time. Our pins come with a dulled tip, but they are still pokey!
- With your portafilter basket empty, place the tool inside of the basket to determine if you need to adjust the pin height on the tool. Holding the tool under a bright light will help significantly. If an adjustment is needed, hold the jam nut and rotate the adjustment sleeve until you reach your desired height. Then tighten the jam nut against the adjustment sleeve to lock its position.
- Fill your portafilter with espresso grounds and place the tool on top. You will notice a white circle around one of the pin holes. The tool can be rotated until the white circle is closest to the edge of the tool. In this configuration, the pins are furthest away from the edges and the tool is easier to place on your portafilter without a pin getting caught outside the basket.
- Spin the tool 4-8 times, no need to overdo it. After the final spin, hold the tool on top of the portafilter and give the portafilter a few light taps on the counter to settle the grounds. Give the tool one more final slow spin and gently remove it from the portafilter basket
- Place the tool in its stand, tamp your grounds, and go brew some espresso.

Care and Maintenance
For daily maintenance, simply brush off any loose grounds and/or wipe clean with a cloth. When it's time for a more thorough cleaning, remove the pins, sleeve, and lock nut from the gear mechanism. Wipe down the gear mechanism with a damp cloth while avoiding getting water inside the rotating parts. The pins, sleeve, lock nut, and stand may be hand washed with lukewarm water and soap. Be sure to rinse well, and dry immediately. The ARO Orbit is not dishwasher safe.
Do not expose to high heat. Do not leave it on top of your espresso machine and keep it out of direct sunlight for extended periods of time.
Other Useful Info
The outside diameter of the base of the 58mm version is 77mm. For the 54mm and 53mm versions, it is 71mm.
The galaxy surface finish utilizes microscopic variations in the surface texture to create a holographic effect. Depending on the angle that light hits the surface, you will see a dazzling rainbow of colors. This effect may fade if the tool becomes oily or dirty. If this occurs, wipe the top surface of the tool with a damp cloth and soapy solution to restore the holographic effect. Do not submerge the tool!
This item is additively manufactured – hand wash only with lukewarm water and soap.
The Bezzera E61 Flow Control Device allows you to adjust the flow of water in your brew group to manually profile your extractions. This custom component is a stainless steel needle valve, which allows the user to vary the amount of water flowing through the group.
Overview
Bravo’s Portafilter Funnel makes dosing accuracy and consistency a breeze. The funnel sits on top of your portafilter to direct coffee out of the grinder’s chute and into the center of the portafilter. Grinding coffee will quickly become one of your favorite parts of the brewing process with Bravo’s dosing funnel—eliminating inaccurate dosing or the worst part, a messy clean up process.
Fits 58 mm Portafilter Baskets
Overview
The Bravo Distributor & Leveler is a tool praised by pro-baristas including Danilo Lodi, a World Barista Championship (WBC) Certified Judge since 2011, a World Coffee Events (WCE) Representative since 2013, as well as a roaster, barista, instructor, and coffee consultant since 2004. Lodi uses the Distributor & Leveler to train contestants on the best ways to achieve a high-quality espresso by controlling all of the variables, which includes evenly distributing and leveling the coffee prior to tamping.
The Bravo Distributor & Leveler is also praised for its patented piston design which adapts to the amount of coffee in the basket, allowing the part to move freely without any resistance. This prevents the Distributor from compressing the coffee, and instead gently distributing it without pressure. Once the piston has come into contact with the coffee, rotating the leveling blades will evenly distribute the grounds into a even surface.
To increase the speed of the piston, the three screws on top of the tool can be removed to improve air flow, allowing the piston to descend more quickly.
Bravo’s Distributor & Leveler pairs well with the Bravo Tamper as the next step in your espresso brewing experience. After creating a polished surface that eliminates the opportunity for channeling or an uneven extraction, you can utilize the tamper to compress the coffee for a perfect extraction.
Compatible with 58mm Portafilters
How to Use the Bravo Distributor and Leveler
- Place the Bravo Distributor on top of the coffee grounds with the piston facing downward and the collar of the Distributor resting on the perimeter of the portafilter. This ensures that the tool is placed in the center of your filter basket and is ready to evenly distribute your coffee.
- Spin the Bravo Distributor & Leveler 2-3 times clockwise to distribute the coffee grounds beneath the piston.
- Spin the Bravo Distributor & Leveler 2-3 times counterclockwise to further distribute the coffee grounds beneath the piston.
- Gently lift the Distributor out of your portafilter and proceed to tamp your polished bed of coffee.
Overview
The Bravo Tamper is an innovative tool designed to ensure even compression and apply consistent tamping pressure to your coffee puck. Endorsed by Dalla Corte coffee pro Danilo Lodi, this pro-barista tool will level up your home, office or commercial espresso experience.
The tamper is designed with an internal spring and an external spring to ensure you’re applying consistent pressure. By removing the screw cap at the top of the tamper, tamping pressure can be adjusted between 26 - 34 lbs using an Allen key. Default tamping pressure is set to 34 lbs and will decrease approximately 2.5 lbs per millimeter turned with the Allen bolt. Once your desired tamping pressure has been reached, thread seal tape will be necessary to secure the Allen bolt in place.
Compared to other spring-operated tampers, the Bravo tamper’s outer rim rests gently on the outside of the portafilter while you press gently in a downward motion. Unlike the Bravo Espresso Tamper, standard spring-and-click tampers have no mechanism that prevents you from applying an excessive amount of pressure on the coffee puck.
If you really take your morning coffee seriously then consider the Bravo Tamper as a staple in your espresso routine. To achieve further quality results, you can pair the tamper with Bravo’s Distributor which takes the mess and inconsistency of the four-corners technique out of the question and delivers a clean and polished surface that’s ready to be tamped.
Compatible with 58mm Portafilters
How to Use the Bravo Tamper
- Place the Bravo Tamper on top of your coffee grounds so that the rim rests on the perimeter of your portafilter.
- Slowly press down with one hand using the ergonomic handle, to compress the coffee. Continue to press down with a consistent pressure until you feel the pressure from the second internal spring and the surface of the tamper hits the coffee bed. You will feel the upper axis of the tamper touch the screw cap—this indicates that your tamper has reached a sufficient amount of tamping pressure.
- Slowly release the tamper, letting it return to its original position so that you do not create a vacuum and disturb the coffee bed.
- If desired, apply gentle pressure and rotate the tamper clockwise and counterclockwise to further polish the coffee bed.

Bravo Flat Tamper & Distributor Stand
Made primarily of heavy-duty textured aluminum, Bravo’s updated tamper and distributor stand is more than an aesthetically pleasing organizational tool for your tamper and distributor—it actually allows you to practice your tamping form while your Bravo tamper is on the stand.
Simply press down on the tamper as though it’s in a portafilter. The depth of the openings in the stand allows you to apply the full pressure allowed by the tamper’s springs so you can get the feel of it before tamping with (and ultimately wasting) actual coffee.
The clear acrylic accenting adds to the aesthetics, and the rubber gripping feet mean the stand stays in place. Included are two clear acrylic inserts that can be inserted to reduce play in the stand.
This stand is compatible with both 58mm and 54mm Bravo tampers, mini tampers and distributors.
